Traditional Food
No one will remain
silent when speaking about this topic. This is the basic need for each and
every living creature on the Earth.
Yeah!!! Today’s post is
food!!!
The life expectancy of
human beings is lowering as years passing on. This is because our ancestors got
self generated medicine from their body through their food. They had a proper
system for consumption of food. My grandfather lost his strength in 80s, my
father in 70s but our generation will probably lose our strength in late 50s.
This technological world has given birth to new diseases which are reducing our
fertility rate, immune system and finally our life. One of the major reasons
for these problems is the way of food that we consume. The
medicinal food that our ancestors ate has now turned to poisonous food.
Whatever westernized
food may come, there is no substitute for the healthy way of eating traditional
meals. There is separate scientific reason for the order of food served in our
traditional meals. If you would have
noticed, most of the meals will start with spicy ones and end with a sweet.
The spicy foods activate
out digestive glands which secretes digestive juices and acids which enhances
the digestive process. Eating spicy foods also ensures that the digestion
process smooth. On the other hand sweets contain are full of carbohydrates
which lead to sluggish digestion. At the same time, the intake of sugar
enhances the absorption of amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan is associated with
the increase in the levels of serotonin a neurotransmitter which is linked to
the feelings of well-being. That is the feeling we need to experience at the
end of a full meal.
However, eating sweets
prepared with white sugar is not considered healthy. It will not only add up
your overall sugar intake but in the long run, it increases your risk of
obesity and other related health conditions. Instead, we should start using
jaggery or brown sugar to make our sweets at home.
Our traditional food is
served in banana leaf. It is considered to be healthy as the anti oxidants in
banana leaf are reported to help us fight cancer. Banana leaf contains
significant amounts of polyphenols and EGCG which are used in dietary
supplements. The leaves also contain polyphenol oxidase, an enzyme that produces L-DOPA, a
treatment for Parkinson’s disease. By serving hot
food on a banana leaf, one could get a lot of that good stuff although the leaf
is hard to digest for human when eaten as it is.
Our food habits are transformed
a lot which leads to many problems. It is time for us to go back to our
traditional way of eating to enhance our health.
